Today marked the completion of another Friendly Regatta sailing course in Montenegro.
Under the guidance of Sergey Sinitsyn, over the course of two weeks, future captains thoroughly studied the theoretical framework and put these skills into practice:
- Safety fundamentals and sea rescue
- International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs-72)
- Fundamentals of navigation
- Detailed boat layout and mechanics
- VHF radio operations (receiving weather forecasts, distress calls, etc.)
Motoring Practice Program:
- Maneuverability and handling
- Course keeping
- Emergency tiller operation
- “Man Overboard” (MOB) rescue procedures
- Precision aiming and docking (stern-to and alongside)
- Anchoring and weighing anchor
- Mediterranean-style mooring
- Crewed and single-handed docking
Sailing Maneuvers & Sail Handling:
- Raising and dousing sails
- Heaving-to
- Tacking and gybing
- Steering a compass course
- Points of sail relative to the wind
- “Sailing circle” drills
- Reefing the sails
- “Man Overboard” rescue under sail
The crew also completed two night passages—the moon on those nights was absolutely stunning!
Training was conducted at an intense pace following this daily schedule:
- 06:30 – Wake-up
- 07:00–07:30 – Breakfast
- 08:00 – Classes begin
- Morning – Theory modules
- Afternoon – Setting sail and practicing boat handling skills at sea
- 18:00–19:00 – End of practical training
After dinner, time was set aside for self-study and exam prep.
All participants successfully passed their international license examinations. Bravo, team!
